October 12:
"Fall Campaign Rally"

The Lowcountry Conservative Republican Breakfast Club will hold it’s monthly meeting at 9 a.m. Saturday, October 12, at Kelly's BBQ restaurant on U.S. Highway 78, two miles south of the Berlin Myers Parkway, between Summerville and Ladson. 

Headlining this breakfast will be a special pre-election GOP campaign rally featuring local GOP candidates State Representative David Owens, Berkeley County Council candidate Carroll Cash, and Dorchester County Council candidate Arthur Bryngelson. Candidates and representatives of other campaigns, both statewide and local, are also expected to attend this event.  The candidates will take questions from the audience at the event.

A breakfast buffet will be served for $6.50, and the meetings are always open to the public.  The club meets every second Saturday at Kelly’s BBQ restaurant at 9 a.m., to discuss events of local and state importance.  All interested in learning about the Republican Party and/or issues in the upcoming elections are encouraged to attend this meeting.

September 14:
"
GOP club to pay tribute to victims of terrorism"

The Lowcountry Conservative Republican Breakfast Club will meet at 9 a.m. Saturday, September 14, for a special tribute in remembrance of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks as well as those fighting the war on terrorism.

The monthly breakfast meeting will be at Kelly's BBQ restaurant on U.S. Highway 78, two miles south of the Berlin Myers Parkway in the Ladson area.

Dorchester County Sheriff Ray Nash will moderate a panel discussion of homeland security issues. He is expected to be joined by Charleston County Sheriff Al Cannon, Lt. Colonel John Barnes of the S.C. State Guard, and state Rep. David Owens.


July 13 MEETING: "2002 Legislative Review"

The Lowcountry Conservative Republican Breakfast Club will hold its July breakfast meeting on Saturday, July 13, featuring a “Legislative Briefing”.  The breakfast will be at Kelly’s BBQ restaurant on US Highway 78, two miles south of the Berlin Myers Parkway in the Ladson area.

State Senator John Kuhn (R-Berkeley and Charleston Counties), and State Representative Shirley Hinson (R-Berkeley County) will discuss legislative issues and accomplishments in the 2002 session of the S.C. General Assembly, as well as issues in the 2002 fall elections.


May 11th MEETING:
“Local GOP candidates Stump Rally, Part 2”

The Lowcountry Conservative Republican Breakfast Club will hold its May breakfast meeting on Saturday, May 11th, featuring a “Stump Rally” of GOP candidates seeking office in the June 11th Republican Primary.  The following candidates and races will be spotlighted in this event:

·        House 98: Tina Bohannon and Annette Young

·        House 117: Tom Dantzler and Wheeler Tillman

·       Berkeley County Judge of Probate: Janson Kauser, Keith Kornahrens, and James Law.

GOP Controller General candidate Richard Eckstrom will also be attending this event, and other statewide candidates are expected to attend.


April 13th 2002 MEETING:
“Local GOP Candidates Stump Rally”

The Lowcountry Conservative Republican Breakfast Club will hold its April breakfast meeting on Saturday, April 13th. 

The breakfast meeting will feature a “Stump Rally” of GOP candidates seeking office in the June 11th Republican Primary.  The following candidates and races will be spotlighted in this event:

·        House 100: Bryan Keelin and Charles Powell

·        Berkeley County Supervisor: Jim Rozier and Wayland Moody

·        Berkeley County Coroner: Doug Hester, Glenn Rhoad, and Charlene Wellman

·        Dorchester County Council, Dist. 7:  Bill Byrd and Walter “Skip” Elliot


March 9th 2002 MEETING:
“GOP State Chairman Candidates' Forum”

The Lowcountry Conservative Republican Breakfast Club will hold its March breakfast meeting on Saturday, March 9th.  The breakfast will feature another of their “First in the Lowcountry” series of candidate forums for Republicans seeking statewide offices in 2002. 

This forum will feature the three announced candidates for the Chairmanship of the South Carolina Republican Party.  They are vying for the seat to be vacated by the outgoing current Chairman, Henry McMaster:

·        Katon Dawson, a Columbia businessman, who was narrowly defeated in his 2000 bid for the chairmanship of the SC Republican Party.

·        Cyndi Mosteller, current First Vice-Chairman of the South Carolina Republican Party from Isle of Palms, who has made several appearances on ABC’s Politically Correct and served on the SC DHEC board.

·        Tommy Windsor, longtime Midlands GOP political operative who is the outgoing chairman of the Lexington County Republican Party. 

 


February 9th, 2002 MEETING:
“Secretary of State Candidates' Forum”

The Lowcountry Conservative Republican Breakfast Club will hold its February breakfast meeting on Saturday, February 9th.  The breakfast will feature another of their “First in the Lowcountry” series of candidate forums for Republicans seeking statewide office. 

This forum will feature the three announced Republican candidates for the Secretary of State’s office - Ed McMullen, Columbia businessman and former director of the South Carolina Policy Council, Spartanburg County Clerk of Court Mark Hammond, and Horry County Auditor Lois Eargle.  They are vying for the seat to be vacated by current Secretary of State Jim Miles, who is running for Governor.

Immediately following the breakfast, at the same location, will be the monthly meeting of the Berkeley-Dorchester Counties chapter of Young Republicans.  This month’s featured speaker will be State Representative Shirley Hinson of Goose Creek, who will give a legislative update.


January 12th, 2002 MEETING:
“GOP Victory 2002: How Republicans Will WIN!”

The Lowcountry Conservative Republican Breakfast Club will hold its January breakfast meeting on Saturday, January 12th.  This “Victory 2002” forum will feature a panel discussion by several Lowcountry GOP officials who will discuss their ideas for the GOP agenda for the upcoming 2002 elections.

Participants will include Berkeley County Republican Party Chairman David Vanosdoll, Berkeley-Dorchester Young Republicans Chairman Bryan Keelin, and South Carolina Republican Party First Vice-Chairman Cyndi Mosteller.

Cyndi Mosteller has starred in twelve episodes of ABC’s Politically Incorrect as well as served as past chairman of the SC GOP’s Platform Committee and as a member of SC DHEC board under the Beasley administration. 


December 8th MEETING: "2002 Legislative Preview"
 

The Lowcountry Conservative Republican Breakfast Club will hold its December breakfast meeting on Saturday, December 8th, featuring a “Legislative Preview” of the upcoming 2002 session of the South Carolina General Assembly.  This month’s discussion will feature State Senator Larry Grooms (R-Bonneau) and State Representative David Owens (R-St. George).

 

Senator Grooms represents Senate District 37, which includes Berkeley, Charleston, Colleton, and Dorchester Counties.  He serves on the Senate Transportation and Finance Committees.  He was first elected to the Senate in 1997.

 

Representative Owens represents House District 97, which includes Colleton and Dorchester Counties.  Owens serves on the House Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee.  He is in his first term in the state House, and is the only House freshman to have been appointed to the post of Majority Whip.

 


November 10th MEETING: “Attorney General Candidates' Forum”

The Lowcountry Conservative Republican Breakfast Club will hold its November breakfast meeting on Saturday, November 10th, featuring another event in its “First in the Lowcountry” series of candidate forums.  This forum will feature a Question and Answer forum featuring all three of the announced GOP candidates seeking the Attorney General’s office in the 2002 elections.

Republican candidates State Senator John Hawkins of Spartanburg, former Circuit Court Judge and State Senator Larry Richter of Mount Pleasant, and former State Grand Jury Prosecutor Jon Ozmint of Anderson have confirmed their attendance for this event.


October 13th MEETING: “Lt. Governor Candidates' Forum”

The Lowcountry Conservative Republican Breakfast Club will hold its November breakfast meeting on Saturday, November 10th, featuring another event in its “First in the Lowcountry” series of candidate forums.  This forum will feature a Question and Answer forum featuring all three of the announced candidates seeking the GOP nomination for Lieutenant Governor in the 2002 elections.

Republican candidates State Representative Rita Allison of Spartanburg, State Senator André Bauer of Newberry, and State Senator David Thomas of Fountain Inn have confirmed their attendance for this event.


September 8th MEETING: SC GOP Chairman, Henry McMaster

The Lowcountry Conservative Republican Breakfast Club will hold its September breakfast meeting on Saturday, September 8th, featuring Henry McMaster, the Chairman of the South Carolina Republican Party.

McMaster will discuss the fall GOP reorganization activities, including the precinct and county-level activites, as well as the upcoming 2002 election campaigns. 


August 11TH MEETING: “Governor Candidates' Forum"

The Lowcountry Conservative Republican Breakfast Club will hold its June breakfast meeting on Saturday, August 11, featuring the “First in the Lowcountry” forum of GOP Gubernatorial candidates for the 2002 elections.

Republican candidates Lt. Governor Bob Peeler, Attorney General Charlie Condon, Secretary of State Jim Miles, State Senator Bill Branton, and Columbia Attorney Ken Wingate are expected to attend and participate in this event.  Former Congressman Mark Sanford and past Superintendent of Education candidate Rebekah Sutherland are the only two candidates who will not be attending this event.

The candidates will give five-minute presentations, and then each will accept one written question selected from written questions submitted by attendees.  Media questions will be allowed only after the forum has concluded.


July 14TH MEETING: "2001 Legislative Report"

The Lowcountry Conservative Republican Breakfast Club will hold its June breakfast meeting on Saturday, July 9, featuring a panel discussion of the accomplishments of the 2001 session of the SC General Assembly, featuring State Senator Bill Mescher (R-Pinopolis) and State Representative John Graham Altman (R-Charleston)

Senator Mescher was first elected to the SC State Senate in 1992 after serving as the President and CEO of the Santee Cooper electric company.  Mescher currently serves as Chairman of the State Senate General Committee.  Representative Altman was first elected to the SC State House in 1996, after serving for 20 years on the Charleston County School Board.  Altman is currently a member of the State House Judiciary Committee.


JUNE 9TH MEETING: "Coroners' Forum":

The Lowcountry Conservative Republican Breakfast Club will hold its June breakfast meeting on Saturday, June 9, featuring a discussion of public safety issues in the greater Charleston area, featuring Berkeley County Coroner Wade Arnette, Charleston County Coroner Susan Chewning, and Dorchester County Coroner Chris Nesbit.

Wade Arnette was first elected Coroner of Berkeley County in 1990, Susan Chewning was first elected Coroner of Charleston County in 1992, and Chris Nesbit was first elected Coroner of Dorchester County in 1996.  All three Coroners are Republicans.

Arnette, one of the longest-serving Coroners in South Carolina, has announced his intention to retire at the end of his current term in 2002.


MAY 12TH MEETING: "Sheriffs' Forum":

The Lowcountry Conservative Republican Breakfast Club will hold its May breakfast meeting on Saturday, May 12, featuring a discussion of law enforcement issues in the greater Charleston area, featuring Berkeley County Sheriff Wayne DeWitt, Charleston County Sheriff Al Cannon, and Dorchester County Sheriff Ray Nash.

Wayne DeWitt was first elected Sheriff of Berkeley County in 1994, Al Cannon was first elected Sheriff of Charleston County in 1986, and Ray Nash was first elected Sheriff of Dorchester County in 1996.  All three Sheriffs are Republicans.


APRIL 14TH MEETING: "SC Port Expansion: Yes or No?":

The Lowcountry Conservative Republican Breakfast Club will hold its April breakfast meeting on Saturday, April 14, featuring a discussion of the issues surrounding the proposed State Ports Authority Daniel Island terminal, featuring Byron Miller, manager of public relations for the South Carolina Ports Authority, and Juliet Cohen, alliance director of South Carolina-More Than a Port, a coalition of local groups organized to oppose the Ports Authority’s proposed Daniel Island expansion.

MARCH 10TH MEETING: "State House Update":

The Lowcountry Conservative Breakfast Club will hold its March breakfast meeting on Saturday, March 10, featuring a discussion panel of State Legislators, who will discuss a range of topics, including potential state budget cuts, issues surrounding a state lottery, and other issues related to this year’s legislative session.  

Rep. Converse Chellis (R-Summerville), Rep. Chip Campsen (R-Mt Pleasant), and Rep. Jim Merrill (R-Daniel Island) will be on the discussion panel.  Other local legislators may also attend.
